John Flynn Private Hospital, Pindara Private Hospital - Gold Coast specialist William Butcher

Dr William Butcher

MBBCh FCS (SA) FRCS (Edin) FRACS

Dr. Butcher has been in vascular practice for 25 years, training initially in South Africa and then in the United Kingdom before coming to Australia 10 years ago.  He has vascular fellowships in all three countries.  He has been based in the Gold Coast since his arrival in Australia.

Dr. Butcher seeks to provide patient centred care in vascular surgery, so that patients and their GP can be sure that each patient will get exactly the care they need.  He runs a caring and professional practice catering to the needs of this often frail and unfit group of patents drawing on 25 years of experience encompassing both traditional and endovascular treatment.  With appointments at Tweed hospital and John Flynn he is able to cater to the needs of both private and public patients.

Vascular patients are frequently complex, elderly and with many other medical problems, it is important to consider care plans on a very individual basis.  Will Butcher has experience in all aspects of vascular surgery including both traditional open surgery and endovascular surgery.  He also has a long experience of managing patients conservatively.  He is therefore able to offer the best care options to suit a patient’s needs and physical fitness.

Areas of specific interest include:

  • Complex aortic aneurysm surgery for patients not suited to endovascular treatment.
  • Endovascular aortic aneurysm surgery for suitable patients
  • Carotid endarterectomy to manage the risk of future stroke
  • Peripheral vascular therapies using both open and endovascular techniques to prevent leg loss and improve walking distance and quality of life.
  • Finding durable and cost effective solutions for patients with varicose veins especially those funding their own care

Dr. Butcher prioritises timely care and will strive to see all patients within a few days of referral to manage patient and GP expectations as promptly as possible.

In summary patients and referring doctors can be assured that a combination of the most modern and traditional techniques are equally available to ensure the best outcomes.  These are delivered with the background of many years of experience that is truly international.
