With over 10 years of experience in the field of Urology, Dr Elmes provides a full range of high-quality Urological services for patients with the use of advanced techniques and cutting edge equipment to perform procedures on the Gold Coast. Dr Elmes is qualified in the field of Urology having completed extensive surgical training.
His main interests in the field include minimally invasive Robotic Prostate & Kidney surgery, Laser Kidney Stone treatment and BPH treatments with the use of advanced Laser Prostate Enucleation known as HoLEP, UroLift and the prostate Steam treatment devices to maximise treatment benefit and minimise risk.
Dr Elmes is passionate about educating and creating awareness about Urological care providing the best treatment and post care options available on the Gold Coast.
Training
Dr Elmes has extensive advanced Urological training having completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery having attained Dean’s Honours and Dux of Physiology & Biochemistry. Dr Elmes completed his general surgical training at the Alfred, Austin and Western hospitals in Melbourne. Dr Elmes’ Urology interest began in 2001 with residency and assisting surgically at a multitude of operations. He furthered his Urological training with a Doctorate of Medicine investigating prostate cancer immunology and presenting multiple clinical papers at state and international levels. Awarded the prestigious Ronald John Gleghorn Scholarship from the University of Melbourne 2006 he was then awarded the inaugural Rodney Syme Scholarship form the Department of Urology Austin Health in 2007.
He completed his advanced Urological surgery training in Sydney, NSW having passed his fellowship exams with distinction.
Interests & expertise
After attaining his FRACS (Sydney), Dr Elmes spent a further year refining other techniques. He was invited to complete a complex stone surgical fellowship under the tutelage of Australia's leading stone endourologist, Dr Raymond Ko. In addition, Dr Elmes spent time with world experts in open and minimally invasive cancer surgery. He was the first Fellow to use the Da Vinci Si robot in the state-of-the-art theatres at Nepean Hospital - the largest urological training hospital in NSW.
