Dr Freeman is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon having commenced practice in 1992 and providing services to Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah Public Hospital up to 2008. He has continued operating in private practice at John Flynn Private Hospital since it first opened in 1994 to the present time.
Dr Freeman was the first surgeon to perform the modern anterior hip replacement surgery in Queensland in 2009. Due to the superior results from the anterior approach (no muscles cut, and much lower pain and dislocation risk) that surgery has dominated his practice in recent years. He has taught and supervised surgeons in the anterior approach in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast and Osaka in Japan.
However, he continues to perform knee and shoulder replacements, as he has had a long-term interest in designing instruments and operating techniques with those procedures.
Dr Freeman’s practice is based on providing the best quality treatment, advice, surgery and service, including ensuring optimal recovery following surgery.
He was appointed a member of the Medical Assessment Tribunals for the Queensland Regulator of WorkCover from 2010 to present. He was a member of the Medical Advisory Panel to WorkCover Queensland from 2010 to February, 2020.
Dr Freeman has been, and continues to be, involved in instrument development for hip and knee replacement surgery.
He closely monitors design materials and techniques, and implements only those which have proven to be safe and reliable improvements.
Dr Freeman has given talks at meetings in the USA, Canada, Chile and Australia.
Attending Orthopaedic meetings allows Dr Freeman to discuss new techniques and instruments with international specialists, which is important to his understanding the limitations, and thus avoid problems, with new developments. This in turn permits him to consider many important aspects before advising patients regarding surgical procedures and implants.
Dr Freeman has performed many more than 10,000 operations.
