Dr Anna Isaacs

Dr Anna Isaacs is a General Surgeon, with interests in Metabolic and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery servicing the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers area.

Dr Isaacs studied Medicine at The University of Sydney after initially completing a Bachelor of Science majoring in psychology at Macquarie University. She worked as intern and resident at Westmead Hospital before being accepted to the surgical training program of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Dr Isaacs continued at Westmead Hospital for her surgical training, with rotations including Coffs Harbour Base Hospital and Bathurst Base Hospital. She was awarded fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2017 and went on to complete a year as a General Surgical Fellow at QEII Hospital in Brisbane. Dr Isaacs then completed 2 years of Upper GI fellowship training at The Tweed Hospital and John Flynn Private Hospital before being accepted to the prestigious Australian & Aotearoa New Zealand Gastric & Oesophageal Surgery Association (AANZGOSA) post-fellowship training program. These two years were undertaken at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and Concord Hospital in Sydney focussing on gastro-oesophageal cancer surgery, hiatus hernia surgery and metabolic surgery (also known as bariatric surgery).

Dr Isaacs has an interest in Upper GI surgery including hiatus hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery and metabolic surgery as well as the treatment of gastric cancer. She also performs general surgical operations including cholecystectomy, hernia repair and endoscopy, as well as acute general surgical management. Dr Isaacs is a member of the Upper GI multidisciplinary team meeting for cancer diagnoses at The Tweed Hospital. She also participates in the Monash Bariatric Surgery Clinical Quality Registry.

Dr Isaacs also offers Oesophageal Manometry and ph Testing in her rooms at John Flynn Medical Centre.  This is also known as Oesophageal physiology studies.  Oesophageal manometry is a precise diagnostic test that measures the pressure and coordination of muscle contractions in the oesophagus. This helps in diagnosing various oesophageal motility disorders, such as Achalasia, Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) among others.   

Dr Isaacs has a keen interest in teaching medical students and is involved in training surgical registrars. She is an instructor on the RACS course – Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCRISP). She is a Clinical Associate Professor at Bond University, as the co-lead discipline for the surgical curriculum, and she is a senior lecturer at Griffith University.

Dr Isaacs is based at John Flynn Private Hospital and The Tweed Hospital, with consulting rooms at The Core Specialist Group in John Flynn Medical Centre.
