Pindara and John Flynn Private Hospitals have taken practical steps to protect the future of the planet, unveiling new solar panel systems as part of Ramsay Health Care’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Pindara Private Hospital’s new 184 kilowatt (kW) system will save more than 4,208 tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifespan, while John Flynn’s 99kW unit will save an additional 2,281 tonnes.

Pindara Private Hospital CEO, Mark Page, said the units were the equivalent of taking 107 cars off the road.

“Installing solar panels is great for the environment and creating more sustainable hospitals for the future,” Mr Page said.

“The Gold Coast is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the world and I’m proud we’re doing our part to help protect it for generations to come.”

John Flynn Private Hospital CEO, Adam Stevenson, said he was excited to be taking practical steps to protect the planet.

“I’m excited to be moving forward with our commitment to addressing climate change through meaningful sustainability initiatives,” Mr Stevenson said.

The solar installations follow the announcement both hospitals will soon make the switch to energy efficient LED lighting. Between the two sites almost 4,600 lights will be upgraded saving more than 1,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Other environmental initiatives from Pindara and John Flynn Private Hospitals include PVC and aluminum anesthetic cannister recycling programs which have to date seen more than 3,600kgs of PVC and more than 155kgs of aluminum recycled.

Both hospitals are also supporting Ramsay Health Care’s goal to remove 50 million single-use plastic items from sites, including cutlery, crockery and single use plastic water bottles.

Pindara and John Flynn Private Hospitals are the ninth and tenth Ramsay Health Care sites in Australia to have solar panels installed under a national initiative, as part of its sustainability strategy which focuses on creating stronger communities, healthier people and a thriving planet.

Ramsay Health Care is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and addressing climate change head on through meaningful sustainability initiatives.
