John Flynn midwife recognised in national award

Apr 12, 2021

A midwife who has cared for thousands of families during her 20 year career at John Flynn Private Hospital has been recognised for her outstanding work in the 2021 HESTA Australia Nursing and Midwifery Awards.

Melanie Boulter has been named as one of three finalists in the Midwife of the Year category, standing out from large pool of applicants.

Ms Boulter is recognised for giving exceptional care to families at John Flynn Private Hospital on the Gold Coast. Among the many achievements during her 20 year career, Melanie helped create the hospital’s Know My Midwife program.

The judges were impressed by Melanie’s passion for post-natal support, her willingness to help medical and midwifery students, and her determination to support families after discharge, particularly during the COVID pandemic.

The HESTA Awards recognise individuals and organisations for their contribution to the health care sector.

An independent judging panel reviewed hundreds of nominations to select finalists across three categories: Nurse of the Year, Midwife of the Year and Outstanding Organisation.

Ramsay Health Care Australia was recognised as one of three finalists in the Outstanding Organisation group for its work to improve environmental sustainability across its facilities, including through cutting greenhouse gas emissions and single-use plastics.

The judges were impressed by Ramsay’s exceptional recycling figures in 2020, including 39% of general waste and 98% of its unwanted IT assets.

Winners in each category will be revealed on 6 May in Melbourne.
