John Flynn Private Hospital is building a better future for its patients through a
multi-million development, known as the P.O.W.E.R. project.
The milestone investment by the facility, which is owned and
operated by Ramsay Health Care, will result in:
• 30 extra private rooms
• Two operating theatres and expanded pre-operative and
post-operative areas
• 116 car parks
• Doubling the size of the emergency department
• The installation of a Queensland-first PET scanner and nuclear
imaging department
• A 15 chair renal dialysis unit adjacent to the day oncology unit
Patients will be able to access these additional critical health
services much earlier than first planned, thanks to the ingenuity
of John Flynn Private Hospital’s engineering services manager
David Hutchinson.
Architects were originally designing a new tower in order to
create capacity for the hospital to house its new facilities.
However, in a win for patients, doctors and staff alike, Mr
Hutchinson highlighted the existence of an unused area located
under the existing footprint of the main hospital building.
“Utilising this space removes the need to construct a new
building from scratch. It will mean we can deliver the project
seven years earlier than previously thought,” Mr Hutchinson said.
6,000 cubic metres of dirt have been removed from under the
main hospital building to allow workers to build the additional
levels.
Plans are also being developed for Stage 2 of the John Flynn
Specialist Suites, which will include 27 new specialist suites, a
car park and lift. This project will complement the 21 specialist
suites completed in the first stage of the project in early 2019.
