A word from
the CEO
John Flynn Private Hospital is undergoing
significant and ongoing development that
will take the hospital forward with additional
theatres, expanded and refurbished Emergency
Department, and a new 30 bed ward. Another very
welcome addition is a radiology upgrade by South
Coast Radiology including the installation of a PET/
CT scanner which will allow doctors to check for
diseases in the body.
These improvements follow the recently expanded
and relocated Day Oncology unit and relocated
Renal Dialysis unit and will be followed soon by a
new 116 space car park and Stage 2 of the John
Flynn Specialist Consulting suites and associated
carpark.
Furthermore, these recent developments have
created additional space within the existing
buildings for even more development in the near
future, requiring more of an internal fit-out than
significant construction.
I feel the hospital is well positioned to provide
the communities of the Southern Gold Coast and
Northern NSW with a continued excellent standard
of care provided by fantastic staff and medicos
and in an outstanding facility.
We have also recently taken stock of a highpowered
laser system which can be used to
treat enlarged prostates and to remove kidney
stones. We have also celebrated a new cardiac
milestone, with our 100th transcatheter aortic
valve implantation procedure.
As well as expanding our emergency department,
we are also pleased to offer – in conjunction with
South Coast Radiology – an initiative that allows
out-of-pocket costs for medical imaging services
to be waived for ED patients.
On a final note, after 10 years as CEO of John
Flynn Private Hospital, I would like to share with
you that I have been given an exciting opportunity
by Ramsay Health Care to lead a project to explore
medical tourism opportunities.
As this will be my last message as CEO of John
Flynn, I have been reflecting on the past decade
and the many wonderful memories that have been
forged during this time. I feel extremely proud of
what we all have achieved in this hospital.
I feel comfortable in the knowledge that although
the wonderful developments are appreciated, it is
the people in John Flynn that make it the fantastic
hospital that it is.
