Cardiac Surgery
John Flynn has attracted an experienced and highly educated team of specialists, we have surgeons and anaesthetists available 24 hours a day. Our cardiac surgeons perform open-heart surgery and are supported by the specialist facilities of the intensive care unit, ensuring immediate post-operative management with personalised nursing care and attention.
Cardiac Catheter Lab
The Cardiac Catheter Lab specialises in a comprehensive range of procedures, with specialist cardiologists providing speedy diagnosis of heart disease by angiography. Once diagnosed, some specific heart diseases can be treated under local anaesthetic using some of the most up-to-date non-surgical treatment available, including balloon angioplasty, coronary stenting and pacemakers.
Coronary Care Unit
Coronary Care Is a seven-bed critical care area with advanced monitoring equipment and facilities to manage any acute coronary care patients, as well as private rooms with hinterland and ocean views. The unit is staffed with cardiac specialist nurses who are committed to supporting both the patient’s and significant others individual psychosocial needs.
Cardiology – Cardiac step down
Patients recovering from open-heart surgery can look forward to recovering in well-appointed private rooms with ocean and hilltop views.
This ward also cares for patients with medical conditions such as angina, arrythmias and those recovering from heart attacks. This ward can cater for 16 patients on telemetry monitoring, which allows patients to move around the ward whilst still being monitored by equipment via a small transmitter worn by the patient.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
The Cardiac Rehabilitation program is a comprehensive education and exercise program designed to optimise physical, psychological, occupational and social recovery following an acute cardiac event within a supportive environment.
The program runs over a six-week period. During this time the patient will participate in an individually prescribed exercise program and also attend education sessions with an emphasis on cardiac education and behaviour modification techniques.
Patients are eligible to participate if they have had a heart attack, balloon angioplasty/Stent, coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair surgery or if they have stable angina or multiple risk factors for heart disease.
Emergency Care Centre
The Emergency Care Centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, attending to patients within the designated times outlined by the Department of Health. The Emergency Department is staffed by Senior Medical and Nursing staff and offers a comprehensive Emergency Service supported by in-house Specialists for admission to hospital and outpatient referrals. Radiology and Pathology services are on site and accessible 24 hours a day complementing our prompt and comprehensive service.

Oncology – John Flynn Cancer Centre
John Flynn Cancer Centre in collaboration with the East Coast Cancer Centre provides a comprehensive service for the treatment of cancer patients conveniently located under the one roof. The Centre can provide services ranging from diagnostics through to treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. In addition the centre can support patients through the recovery period and post discharge from the service.
The range of services offered by the John Flynn Cancer centre include: Diagnostics, Surgical oncology, Medical Oncology (Chemotherapy) Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care and Supportive Therapy.
The centre offers specialist nursing support services to assist patients to cope with their treatment and post treatment needs.

A 15 chair Haemodialysis unit offers patients the latest technology in a spacious, modern environment with wonderful views. We have the capacity for 29 patients per day and are therefore able to accommodate for local and overseas holiday dialysis. Advanced bookings for holidays are essential. For those on holidays it is the perfect setting.
